‘Naked Ladies’: The Female Nude in Modern Canadian Painting and Photography, 1913-1965

Based on her PhD dissertation, ‘Naked Ladies’: The Female Nude in Modern Canadian Painting and Photography, 1913-1965,  Smither’s upcoming book explores the topic of the nude genre within modern Canadian art and its connection to race, gender and sexuality in the early twentieth century. Smither analyzes the relationship between gender and the visual arts and how the two have had a hand in the construction of modernity and the writing of Canadian art history.
